I just think about things and write them down

Romance is Him

What is romance after being inseparable for so long?
It’s the way he tells me good morning every day,
And how he cares for our daughter—as an equal.
It’s all the “I love you’s” I hear throughout the day,
And the sentences we finish for each other.

It’s the respect he has for me,
The lunches he cooks,
The dishes he cleans,
The little things he thinks I take for granted—
But I don’t.

Even if I forget to say thank you,
Or don’t always say I love you back,
This is our way,
This is our life.

For me, romance is him.

Not the flowers we don’t buy for ourselves,
Not the expensive gifts or candlelit dinners,
Not the perfect photo for Instagram,
Not all the things we don’t remember.

But the life we are building and living together.
Respect.
Care.
Giving everything, expecting nothing.
There’s nothing more romantic than that.
