We are often judged
by mistakes long buried,
as if the past defines us.
But does it?
Not the years behind you,
not the echoes of what once was-
but the kindness in your hands,
the love in your voice,
the rituals of your days.
And does it truly matter-
what you did in a time
you barely remember?
Look instead-
At the laughter of your children,
The soft purr of your cat,
The warmth of a full belly,
The little arguments that mean nothing,
but make up everything.
Think of tomorrow,
of life as you live it.
The past? Let it go.
Not the joy,
but the weight of what hurt you.
Why linger?
